⚙️How to create categories for transactions

The functionality of creating and editing categories allows you to personalize your financial control in Fin AI. You can create new categories, edit existing ones, and delete those that are no longer needed. This ensures flexibility and accuracy in displaying your transactions.

Access to the categories section

To start customizing categories:

1. Open the desktop version of Fin AI at the link FIN - AI Financial Assistant.

2. Go to the Categories section.

Example of how to create a new category

1. Click on the "Add category" button in the upper right corner of the "Categories" page.

2. Fill in the details of the new category:

• Select whether this is an expense or income category.

• Name: Enter a unique name for your category (for example, Flowers or Veterinarian).

• Icon: Select a visual symbol for the category from the library of available icons.

1. Save your changes:

• Click on the "Create" button. The new category appears in the list of available categories for selection.

User case:

Colin wants to better track his hobby expenses. He creates a new category called Fishing, adds a fish icon, and starts assigning expenses for equipment to this category. This allows him to easily see the total cost of his favorite pastime.

How to change the category:

1. Find the category you need in the Categories section.

2. Click on a category name to change its name.

3. Click on the category icon to change it.

4. Save the changes: Click the checkbox. All transactions linked to this category will be automatically updated with the new parameters.

How to delete a category

1. Find the category you want to delete: In the list of categories, click the trash can icon next to the category you want to delete.

2. Confirm the deletion: In the confirmation window, select Yes.

3. Reallocation of transactions: If transactions are assigned to a category, they will remain unassigned in the system and require manual editing.

Attention! Deleting a category is final and cannot be undone.

User case:

Bertha discovered that the Miscellaneous category contains expenses that could be better itemized. She changes this category to "Gifts" and adds a corresponding icon, which allows for more accurate analysis of expenses.
